    super car

Supercar is a term used most often to describe an ultra-high-end "exotic" automobile, whose performance is superior to that of its contemporaries. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car", and stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match," "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own"; however, the proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. So-called vehicles are typically out of the ordinary and are marketed by automakers to be perceived by the public as unusual. The supercar can take many forms including limited production specials from an "elite" automaker, standard looking cars made mainstream companies that hide massive power and performance, as well as models that appeal to "hardcore enthusiasts" from "manufacturers on the fringe of the car industry.

    BMW wins Nürburgring 24

After 24 grueling hours around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, BMW Motorsport have won the famous race outright with an M3 GT2. Drivers Jörg Müller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy managed to hold off a very quick Farnbacher Ferrari F430 GTC as well as seven Audi R8s with factory backing. They completed 154 laps of the 25.378-kilometre circuit also known as 'green hell'.

Aside from the Porsche, Audis and BMWs, several other interesting cars raced in the massive 200 car field. Aston Martin brought out a race version of their 4-door Rapide and Lexus unveiled a new contender called the LFA N2410. Porsche even raced a near-stock GT3 RS just to prove a point.

Our highlight gallery from the Nürburgring 24 features the top 3 cars in order and almost all the factory-backed race cars.

    Monaco Historique

On the eve of the 2010 Monaco F1, we present the biennial Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. Supercars.net usually doesn't cover F1 but this event attracts some of the best entrants and cars. The circuit hasn't changed since 1929 and the historic cars get to race it two weeks before the modern F1 takes place.

Separated into eight classes, this year Monaco dropped the cute Formula Juniors in favor of some more potent F3 machines. Our favorites always come from Grid A which is typcially packed with prewar Alfa Romeos, ERAs and Bugattis. Like every year, Monaco reserved a race for sports cars which had a world-class grid.... 2010 Mille Miglia

With massive support from spectators, manufacturers and collectors, the Mille Miglia historic rally is essential. Passing through the picturesque countryside and old Italian cities, the modern Mille Miglia captures the essence of its former glory. Even with modern technology, just finishing the 1500 km journey in a classic car is victory enough.

For 2010 the organizers did a fantastic job of finding 375 cars that would best represent the race. Like last year the large number of OSCA MT4s, Cisitalia 202s and Alfa Romeo 1750s was impressive. By far the most common car was the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, but the entry list ranged from Fiat 500s to one-of Ferraris. Each car had its own intrinsic value and many aren't seen outside Italy....
